Coming into the world at a whopping 4 pounds 3 ounces Alex surprised his mama Ashley by coming two months early. She had gone in for a scheduled appointment and didn't realize that would be the day her Alex would come.
15 months later we were contacted by a caseworker that a mom was looking at our family. This situation was unique because the little man was 15 months old and she was looking to place. We were over the moon. We contacted Ashley and we talked for a month. I remember seeing the first picture of Alex with his Afro, laying on his tummy in a blue shirt and a diaper, I instantly fell in love! We set up a date to go to Ohio and meet and sign paperwork to adopt Alex. We were able to hang out with Ashley and Alex for the week and had such a great time, although it was one of the hardest times in our lives. Such mixed emotions because we were so in love with our son and his mama, but the struggle and feelings she was going through was so painful and heartbreaking. She is one of the strongest women I know.
We have an open adoption and although we live across the country from her, we text, Skype, and even have visits yearly. She has become part of our family and we are so grateful for her. Looking back on how things worked out and how so many events had to take place is amazing and special to us.
This crazy little man has blessed our lives and has connected our family with another wonderful birth family. He has so many people that love him!
